VIENNA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Alpega Group, one of the leading European providers of SaaS software for the transport industry, announced today that it has reached an agreement to acquire Road Heroes, Truck Driver Platform from Pinetco. Road Heroes is a specialist job site that connects truckers to potential employers.
With the current strain of the global supply chain, the driver shortage is increasingly creating the bottleneck that will not go away once production ramps up to otherwise open supply chains. While Alpega offers shippers the possibility of contracting long-term carriers, spotting offers thanks to its TMS solutions and manages some of the largest freight exchanges in Europe, the problem of the shortage of drivers remains a sticking point in chain.
It is estimated that Europe currently lacks 400,000 truck drivers. The reasons for this are well documented, ranging from a generational retirement of older drivers, to the lack of work/life balance sought by younger drivers, to work environment challenges due to traffic congestion and even lack of parking. for trucks in major cities. Many young people who might be interested in driving just said “no thanks”.
Road Heroes by Alpega provides a Europe-wide platform to engage companies and potential drivers to pitch ‘why us’ and ‘why me’, with the aim of giving both parties a competitive advantage in meeting the needs of the market. The platform comes with a lot of intelligence under the hood, allowing specific matching between job postings and truck drivers to maximize relevance.
The efficiency of supply chains, particularly the transportation side of the supply chain, is increasingly becoming a priority as demand for goods increases, highway congestion soars, and the inflation hits every wallet in the world. Add to that the environmental impact of empty trucks on the road and the unnecessary carbon emissions these trucks produce.
Being able to have the right trucks in the right place at the right time with full loads, loaded and unloaded as efficiently as possible, and then allowing those trucks to transport the next load to the next location without downtime or “empty returns” helps ease the tension in the supply chain.
“At Alpega, we view our responsibility to the transportation industry as a holistic responsibility involving the people, processes and software tools to move goods as efficiently as possible. Connecting our community of drivers with our communities of carriers, freight forwarders and shippers is a role we are willing and able to play and which is a natural fit for us. Road Heroes is a next step in our efforts to build the largest digital logistics platform in Europe,” said Fabrice Douteaud, Managing Director, Alpega Freight Exchanges.
The Road Heroes transaction is expected to close in June with the availability of Road Heroes from Alpega scheduled for July.
